“PAID TO LIVE THE DREAM Chapter 15 As Good as It Gets.
What a difference when we joined the Commander and the Ketch, especially the Ketch. It meant that at last we could hoist the sails again. It was everything I’d ever dreamed of, a beautiful, traditional wooden sailing boat with red sails. The year on the Chris Craft was good though and as it was a fibreglass vessel we didn’t have much to do in the way of maintenance.
Moored at St Tropez, just Jill and me, with the gawkers eyeing us up, hoping to see famous faces. Once we asked if we were Nina and Frederik. I don’t know if we should have felt flattered or not. Nina and Ferderik were a popular duet in the 50’s and early 60’s.
It’s not surprising that we were sometimes mistaken for celebrities. We were able to enjoy the good life and have the best of everything. The best moments were when Jill and I cruised on our own either to meet charterers or the owner somewhere or if the owner went home and left us in a really nice place.
